Primeval/Malory Towers

Sally crossed off another day. Just doing so made her stomach turn but the one day she had tried not to, she had become overwhelmed by counting back through the days in her head and had relented after less than half an hour.

Twenty nine days.

Darrell had been gone...Darrell had been missing for twenty nine days.

Sally had some idea of statistics on missing people. She just tried not to think about them because that hurt even more.

She had lied to Felicity, when the younger woman had called looking for her sister, told her that Darrell was out on an assignment for the newspaper and might be difficult to contact for a while. She didn't know how much time that gave her before Felicity called again.

She couldn't even begin to come up with an explanation to provide the Rivers family when the Home Office couldn't provide her with one. Of course, they had no idea that Darrell had told Sally everything. They had no idea that Sally believed her partner. If they did perhaps she would have some answers by now.

At the knock at the door, Sally turned from the calendar and prepared herself for small talk with the postman.

She didn't recognise the woman on the other side of the door.

“Sally Hope?”

“Yes. Who are you?”

The blonde woman squirmed for just a moment and then held out her hand in an awkward handshake that Sally took.

“Abby Maitland, I work for the Home Office...I...work with Alicia.”

Sally's mind froze and she barely processed what the woman said next, but stepped aside to let her inside when the other woman asked.

“I'll probably get fired for coming here but...it's not fair to just keep you in the dark”, Abby stood in the centre of their living room and shoved her hands into her pockets, “I don't know what Darrell told you about...the help she gave us...”

“...with the anomalies and the creatures”, Sally finished for her, as ridiculous as it sounded to say it outloud to another person. Abby looked shocked and relieved all at once and took an awkward position on the edge of the sofa.

“That makes things easier...I want to tell you what happened...where Darrell is”, and there was something in Abby's voice that made Sally's voice catch in her throat when she composed herself enough to reply,

“It...it's not good news is it?”

“I'm sorry...”

Oh Sally! I am glad someone is telling her what's happened at least though :( And the detail of her keeping it from Felicity seems very in-character.
